A tiny house above Lake Maggiore

A tiny house, Lake Maggiore views, and a terrace for slow mornings

The house is set into the green hillside above Piazzogna, looking out over Lake Maggiore.
Inside, 30 square metres bring together a double bed, a small kitchen, a bathroom and a living space facing the view. An 18-square-metre wooden terrace extends the house outside, with sunbeds and a heated jacuzzi among the greenery.

Where you'll sleep

The house has a sleeping area with a double bed. It is part of the main 30m² interior, together with the living area and kitchenette, rather than a separate bedroom.

Details that matter

Silence & space

  • Piazzogna is close enough for the everyday things, but far enough from the busier side of Lake Maggiore to feel properly quiet. At Habitat, the green around the dwellings gives way almost directly to forest, with the village above and the lake below.
  • The Gambarogno Riviera has largely stayed outside mass tourism. It is a place of small villages, wooded paths and long views across the water – better explored without too much of a plan, and without much hurry.

Pet-friendly

  • Dogs are welcome at the tiny house. With forest paths nearby and the quieter side of Lake Maggiore just below, it is an easy place to stay with a dog. Please let the hosts know in advance if you are bringing one, so they can prepare the stay accordingly.

Groups & workshops

  • The tiny house is best suited to a small, quiet stay, but it can also be part of a larger group trip, retreat or workshop at Habitat.
  • For group stays, workshops or private events, other spaces at Habitat can be used depending on the size of the group and what you are planning.
  • Please send a request before booking. The host will confirm what is possible and which spaces would work best.

The space

  • This small 30m² house is above Lake Maggiore, on the hillside above Piazzogna. An 18m² wooden terrace extends the living space outside.
  • Inside, the sleeping area, kitchenette and living space share one compact room. Large windows look out towards Lake Maggiore, the mountains and the surrounding greenery. There is also a private bathroom with a shower.
  • The terrace has sunbeds, a small table and a heated jacuzzi. It opens directly towards the surrounding landscape and adds a generous outdoor space to the small interior.
  • Habitat uses natural materials, simple forms and references to traditional Ticino architecture. The buildings follow the slope and blend into the landscape around them.

Outdoors & surroundings

Habitat is above Lake Maggiore in Piazzogna, on the quieter Gambarogno side of the lake. The forest begins just behind the property, while the village is close enough to reach on foot. There is a small shop about 150 metres away; restaurants and larger shops can be found further around Gambarogno.
A short Energy Trail starts near Habitat and leads into the surrounding landscape. Five stops along the way are dedicated to earth, water, air, fire and ether, with simple places to stop, sit or meditate.
This side of Lake Maggiore is quieter than Locarno and Ascona across the water. Paths connect the small villages, with the lake below and the mountains behind. It is an easy place for walks, a long lunch and days without much of a plan.

How do I get there?

Public transport

For somewhere this close to the forest, arriving without a car is surprisingly easy.
From Zürich HB, the journey is typically around 2 hours 30 minutes. From Milan Malpensa Airport, allow around 2 hours 50 minutes by public transport. Once you arrive at the Cadenazzo FFS station, take the Auto Postale Line B 350 towards 'Dirinella, Confine' and get off at the 'Magadino-Vira, Stazione' stop. From there, take Line B 330 towards Gerra (Gambarogno) and get off at the 'Piazzogna - Paese' stop. Habitat is located about 100 meters from the stop, continuing towards Monte Gambarogno.

Car

Each Habitat dwelling has its own free guest parking space, and charging is available for electric cars and e-bikes.
Worth knowing before you arrive: Habitat is built into the hillside rather than around a conventional hotel car park. Outdoor paths, steps and changes in level connect the different dwellings, and there are no lifts. Across the property, the furthest accommodation is around 100 metres from the parking area, with approximately 25 metres of elevation gain.
